Day 71 of Sheltering-in-Place here in Panama City Beach, Florida. This morning’s statistics for COVID-19 for Bay County are 92 confirmed cases and 3 deaths, and for Florida are 49,451 cases and 2,190 deaths. Bay County had 5 new cases all traced to one individual. A concern is Alabama, as there is a shortage of ICU beds in Montgomery. Alabama is an abutting state, and many residents come here to vacation. I am going to start transitioning into small group outdoor activities, but will wait till after Memorial Day Weekend, after many tourist have gone home.

Today was my Freebie Friday as I call it. I miss teaching, so I decided to offer some free metalsmithing classes to my former students and am doing it by way of Zoom, as I want it interactive. My tripod I ordered for my iPad didn’t come in time for today’s session, so it was a little bit of a challenge to get the camera angle right.

I did walk this morning, but summer has definitely arrived, so I need to start out earlier than I have been. On my walk I started listening to a new audible book, entitled The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah, the author of The Nightingale, which my book club read. The book takes place in Alaska in the 1970’s. It ties in a little bit with the series I am watching called Win the Wilderness, a Netflix reality show about 6 British couples trying to win a home in the wilds of Alaska. What the book and the TV series have in common is the emphasis on survival skills that are needed to survive in Alaska.

The other show I am watching on Netflix is White Line, a British-Spanish mystery thriller that takes place on Ibiza. I am caught up in it and actually look forward to watching it. Usually I do handwork or play Words with Friends when I watch TV, but with this show I actually watch it. It is not for everyone, as there is nudity, drugs, and a little violence.
