Fun with Fabric

Day 55 of Sheltering-in-Place here in Panama City Beach, FL. This morning’s statistics for COVID-19 for Bay County are 76 confirmed cases and 3 deaths and for Florida, 38,002 cases and 1529 deaths.

Though the weather this morning was conducive to working in the yard, my body told me to take it easy today. So that is what I did. The sewing room had piles of things that didn’t belong in it, so I sorted through the piles and deposited the pieces in the studio and the art room. Now the sewing room is functional.

So I started having fun with fabric. I am currently working on a piece that I machine felted years ago. I have been embellishing it with beads, pearls, shells and embroidery. Once I get the surface design finished I want to attach it to some background fabric. I found a few pieces that might work so now I have to design the background and of course finish embellishing.

Today was a music day. My Spotify mix today was Good Times: Great Oldies, consisting of folksy music from the past. During lunch I watched Spectacle: Elvis Costello Interview with James Taylor on YouTube, which is more than an interview as they played music throughout the program.

While working on cleaning up the sewing room, I thought about what I need to be doing to start the repairs to the damage to the house caused by Hurricane Michael. The sewing room needs work on the ceiling and the sliding glass door replaced, plus I fear there is some damage to the wood around it. The screen porch has wood rot and I need to get that repaired before I get the roof done. The porch is full of stuff I was going to sell at a garage sale. The pandemic changed everything and I am not sure when I could ever have a garage sale, so I am going to have to figure out what to do with that stuff. I have settled with the insurance company but am waiting for the bulk of the money and hate to get started and not have the funds.
