Education Encore started last Friday and I am teaching Torch Fired Enameling. I have 20 students, most of whom are repeat students. I send out a heartfelt thank you to my students who keep supporting me. You have become like family to me.

Most of us are recovering from Hurricane Michael in one way or another. I think taking a class is therapeutic, as it gives us something else to focus on.
I read an article in the New York Times by David Brooks, entitled: “Students Learn from People They Love,” and he lists the emotions involved in mastering a hard subject, which I think Enameling is. I quote to my students what is said about enameling:” It takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master.”
Here are the emotions:
- Curiosity
- Excitement
- Frustration
- Confusion
- Dread
- Delight
- Worry
- And he says hopefully Perseverance and joy
And I think I saw all these emotions displayed on Friday. I know that I experience these when I am learning a new technique in Enameling or anything else that is hard to master.
